Niaz Ahmed Khan , PhD, Country Representative, niaz iucnbd.org
Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan joined IUCN Bangladesh as Country Representative in August 2009. Educated and trained in the Universities of Wales, Lampeter and Oxford, Dr. Khan has been a Professor of Development Studies at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh prior to joining IUCN. His other former positions include: Senior Program Coordinator, CHTDF, UNDP-Bangladesh, Professor of Public Administration at University of Chittagong, Senior South Asian Fellow, Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford, and Asia Fellow, AIT, Bangkok. He has extensive experience in project development and management, in both regular and consulting capacities for such organizations as UNDP, ADB, DANIDA, USAID/ARD, IUCN, SCD, IRG, CARE, ICIMOD and various government agencies in the UK and Bangladesh in the fields of rural and social/policy dynamics of environmental management, community based natural resource management, monitoring, evaluation, participatory and institutional development. He has contributed some 150 articles in refereed journals and books, and brings a good mix of both technical management and academic skills to IUCN Bangladesh.

Dr. Ainun Nishat, has been working as a catalyst, advocate, educator and facilitator, championing the wise use of natural resources and sustainable development in Bangladesh for decades, while his arena of work and interests include water resource development and management, environment management, biodiversity conservation, coastal zone and wetland conservation and management, disaster management, adaptation to climate change and climate variability and related policy advocacy.
Before joining IUCN, Dr. Nishat was a Professor of Water Resources Engineering of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He has been a member of the Bangladesh National Water Council, Indo-Bangladesh Joint River Commission, Bangladesh National Agricultural Commission and the National Council on Science and Technology. Dr. Nishat had played an important role in the Ganges Water Treaty negotiations, water sector policy formulation, agriculture sector policy revision and strategy formulation.

Mr. Anwar has joined IUCN Bangladesh in October 2008. He has completed Master’s in Accounting from the University of Dhaka in 1990. Completion of Business Management and Managerial Leadership course under Harvard Business School through distance learning is an added value to his professional career. He has over 15 years of extensive experience in finance & accounting, grants and contracts management, micro-finance, partnership & sub-grant management, re-structuring, policy developments, training, etc. He has worked in various national and international organizations before joining IUCN and demonstrated his progressive responsibility and multi-capacity in various management positions. |

Mr. Azad received his MSc in Crop Science from the Bangladesh Agricultural University in 2002. He is currently managing a floating gardening project of IUCN Bangladesh jointly implemented with CARE Bangladesh under SHOUHARDO Program in the haor region. A graduate in Environmental Studies, Ms. Firoz also has a Masters in Development Studies from North South University, Bangladesh. Over her six-year tenure with IUCN Bangladesh Country Office, she has worked on a number of strategy documents such as the NBSAP, NAPA and ICZM P and gathered vast field experiences within the country. She is currently working as a Programme Officer on climate change awareness and adaptation related projects in Noakhali region. Remeen’s interests include folk-music, traveling, international culture and cuisines, fiction novels and movies. |

He regularly contributes to an eminent news daily of the country as a freelance writer. |

Mr. Masum is a dynamic and proactive public relations professional with experience across agency, government and international organisations. He has demonstrated himself as a strategic thinker with exposure to cross-cultural communications in national and international context. He has proven-experience in leading result-oriented communications initiatives from community to policy level and has good business acumen and aptitude in written and oral communications.
Mr. Masum is a marketing professional by training and has an MBA on people management. Furthermore, he has received training on different communications aspects from IUCN Headquarters (Switzerland, 2007), IUCN Asia Regional Office (Thailand, 2008), and performed official assignments in the World Conservation Congress 2008 (Spain).
Mr. Masum has been working with IUCN Bangladesh for about four years. He was actively worked under the projects on environmental capacity assessment, Avian Influenza and waterbirds relationship, and awareness building on climate change where he successfully assisted in conducting community meetings and media briefings at the national and local levels and also in developing tools for education and awareness raising for students and teachers. He was strongly contributed to a project entitled ‘Action Research for Conservation of Asian Elephants in Bangladesh: Phase III’ as a communications expert where he assisted in conducting awareness programs on elephant conservation in elephant range in Cox’s Bazar in south-eastern Bangladesh. |

Mr. Motaleb, a professional forester, did his post graduate degree in Forestry. He is currently working as a Research Associate under One Stop Service Project. His master research included floristic composition and trend analysis of natural regeneration in a virgin natural forest of Chittagong Hill Tracts with special analysis on the phenology of tree species in the light of changing climate regime. He also published different research publications on biodiversity conservation and related topic in reputed journals. He has interest in forest management with special emphasis on biodiversity conservation. |
