Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan joined IUCN Bangladesh as Country Representative in August 2009. Educated and trained in the Universities of Wales, Lampeter and Oxford, Dr. Khan has been a Professor of Development Studies at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh prior to joining IUCN. His other former positions include: Senior Program Coordinator, CHTDF, UNDP-Bangladesh, Professor of Public Administration at University of Chittagong, Senior South Asian Fellow, Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford, and Asia Fellow, AIT, Bangkok. He has extensive experience in project development and management, in both regular and consulting capacities for such organizations as UNDP, ADB, DANIDA, USAID/ARD, IUCN, SCD, IRG, CARE, ICIMOD and various government agencies in the UK and Bangladesh in the fields of rural and social/policy dynamics of environmental management, community based natural resource management, monitoring, evaluation, participatory and institutional development. He has contributed some 150 articles in refereed journals and books, and brings a good mix of both technical management and academic skills to IUCN Bangladesh.

Dr. Ainun Nishat, has been working as a catalyst, advocate, educator and facilitator, championing the wise use of natural resources and sustainable development in Bangladesh for decades, while his arena of work and interests include water resource development and management, environment management, biodiversity conservation, coastal zone and wetland conservation and management, disaster management, adaptation to climate change and climate variability and related policy advocacy.

Before joining IUCN, Dr. Nishat was a Professor of Water Resources Engineering of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). He has been a member of the Bangladesh National Water Council, Indo-Bangladesh Joint River Commission, Bangladesh National Agricultural Commission and the National Council on Science and Technology. Dr. Nishat had played an important role in the Ganges Water Treaty negotiations, water sector policy formulation, agriculture sector policy revision and strategy formulation.

AFM Rezaul Karim

Joined in IUCN B in December 2006. MSc in Botany, Bangladesh, MS in Development Studies from UK. 23 years of service experienc in the field of development. At present he is responsible for implementation of Sustainable Management of Tangua Haor Project of IUCN B funded by SDC. Previous employment - Consultant Oxfam

Mr. Anwar has joined IUCN Bangladesh in October 2008. He has completed Master’s in Accounting from the University of Dhaka in 1990. Completion of Business Management and Managerial Leadership course under Harvard Business School through distance learning is an added value to his professional career. He has over 15 years of extensive experience in finance & accounting, grants and contracts management, micro-finance, partnership & sub-grant management, re-structuring, policy developments, training, etc. He has worked in various national and international organizations before joining IUCN and demonstrated his progressive responsibility and multi-capacity in various management positions.

Dhruba Kanta Kundu

Joined IUCN Bangladesh in January 2007. MSC in Fisheries from the University of Dhaka. Currently working in Tangua Haor Project. Previous employer - Asstt. Field Coordinator, Local NGO.

Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad

Mr. Azad received his MSc in Crop Science from the Bangladesh Agricultural University in 2002. He is currently managing a floating gardening project of IUCN Bangladesh jointly implemented with CARE Bangladesh under SHOUHARDO Program in the haor region. He loves traveling to new places and reading story books in his leisure time.

Mr. Roy, ACMA, professional degree holder of Cost and Management Accountant from The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh besides he received his B.Com in Accounting and M.S.S. in Economics from the National University. He is interested in the areas of cost and management audit, review and compilation of financial statements as well as reporting of corporate finance, taxation, general business accounting and business planning for sustainable operations in organization. His professional skills have been instrumental in serving organizations retain their wealth through effective financial and business planning.

A graduate in Environmental Studies, Ms. Firoz also has a Masters in Development Studies from North South University, Bangladesh. Over her six-year tenure with IUCN Bangladesh Country Office, she has worked on a number of strategy documents such as the NBSAP, NAPA and ICZM P and gathered vast field experiences within the country. She is currently working as a Programme Officer on climate change awareness and adaptation related projects in Noakhali region. Remeen’s interests include folk-music, traveling, international culture and cuisines, fiction novels and movies.

With a Masters degree in Islamic History, Mr. Asaduzzaman completed Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Science from the National Library and Information Association, Bangladesh. He has also done a Three-Month Certificate Course in Environmental Education in the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), India. He has interest in graphic-designing.

Mr. Azad has graduated from the University of Chittagong. He has extensive experience to work with both renowned national NGO and multi-national organizations. He completed a training course on Human Resource Management organized by Daffodil University. At present, he is pursuing Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management from Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM). He regularly contributes to an eminent news daily of the country as a freelance writer.

Mr. Masum is a dynamic and proactive public relations professional with experience across agency, government and international organisations. He has demonstrated himself as a strategic thinker with exposure to cross-cultural communications in national and international context. He has proven-experience in leading result-oriented communications initiatives from community to policy level and has good business acumen and aptitude in written and oral communications.

Mr. Masum is a marketing professional by training and has an MBA on people management. Furthermore, he has received training on different communications aspects from IUCN Headquarters (Switzerland, 2007), IUCN Asia Regional Office (Thailand, 2008), and performed official assignments in the World Conservation Congress 2008 (Spain).

Mr. Masum has been working with IUCN Bangladesh for about four years. He was actively worked under the projects on environmental capacity assessment, Avian Influenza and waterbirds relationship, and awareness building on climate change where he successfully assisted in conducting community meetings and media briefings at the national and local levels and also in developing tools for education and awareness raising for students and teachers. He was strongly contributed to a project entitled ‘Action Research for Conservation of Asian Elephants in Bangladesh: Phase III’ as a communications expert where he assisted in conducting awareness programs on elephant conservation in elephant range in Cox’s Bazar in south-eastern Bangladesh.

Completed B.Sc in Environmental Science from North South University. Currently involved with the Tanguar Haor Project, she has developed expertise in the fields of climate change and community based natural resource management over the past two years. Ahana’s avid interests include community-based ecosystem management using participatory approaches.

Mr. Wahed obtained his Masters degree in Agronomy from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. He is currently working as a consultant under the CICMEA 2 Project. He loves to play cricket and to visit historical places. As an agriculturist, he would like to contribute in the fields of agriculture and environmental science.

Mr. Motaleb, a professional forester, did his post graduate degree in Forestry. He is currently working as a Research Associate under One Stop Service Project. His master research included floristic composition and trend analysis of natural regeneration in a virgin natural forest of Chittagong Hill Tracts with special analysis on the phenology of tree species in the light of changing climate regime. He also published different research publications on biodiversity conservation and related topic in reputed journals. He has interest in forest management with special emphasis on biodiversity conservation.

She has completed her graduation under the University of Dhaka and has attended a training course on "Management Development for Executives" from Bangladesh Institute of Management. Dominica has been carrying out the responsibilities of smooth operation and implementation of administrative systems and processes of IUCN Bangladesh.

Completed Masters in Management from the National University of Bangladesh and passed CMA intermediate from The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB), Dhaka. Attend a training course on VAT from Customs, Excise & VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka (North), Dhaka. Working with IUCN Bangladesh Country Office as an Accounts Officer.

Joined in IUCN B in August 2008, MS in Information technology. At present he is resposible for all the IT related solutions both software and hardware. He is the in house programmer to design required database and web related applications. Previous employment- Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

Ms. Akand is working for IUCN Bangladesh since April 2008.

Abul Kalam Azad, Working for IUCN's Tanguar Haor Project in Sunamganj.

Completed her Graduation from Dhaka University. She is working with IUCN Bangladesh Country Office, as a Secretary to the Programme Coordinator. She provides secretarial support to the whole programme unit.

Completed her masters from National University. She has completed her personnel management diploma from Bangladesh Institute of Management(BIM). Currently she is working as an administrative assistant and also the membership focal point of IUCNB office. Her career objective is to develop her skills on HR Management.
