Enhancement of Bangladesh’s Capacity to participate in Road to Copenhagen Negotiations and Enhancement of Capacity in Post-Copenhagen Regime
International negotiations towards formulation of a long-term cooperative action to manage the adverse impacts of climate change have entered into an important phase. The Road Map prepared in Bali in December 2007 is expected to culminate in Copenhagen in December 2009 (COP 15) and action plan to be implemented from up to 2012 and beyond would be finalized. Bangladesh would like to take effective part in the road leading to Copenhagen and Post-Copenhagen negotiations and activities. In the negotiation process, which is currently lead by the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) and Department of Environment (DoE), and other Ministries and Agencies as well as key resource persons from outside the government should also effectively participate. Currently, some of them are providing support to the MoEF on a voluntary basis. Their role may be formalized by giving them definite tasks. Against this backdrop, IUCN Bangladesh has been facilitating the Government of Bangladesh for preparing the country for effective participation in the climate change negotiation process up to December 2009 and beyond and at the same time, the entire nation is actively sensitized on climate change concerns under this Project.
This project is being supported jointly by DFID and Embassy of Denmark.
