Experts discussed the growth, trends and values of Eco-tourism in Bangladesh

IUCN Bangladesh Country Office has organized a dialogue on ‘Nature-Based Tourism in Bangladesh: Growth Pattern and Demand for Tourism in Selected National Parks’ on 29 April 2008 at a local restaurant in Gulshan, Dhaka. Recently, IUCN Bangladesh conducted a study on the changing trends in the ecotourism in the Protected Areas (PAs) of Bangladesh under the Nishorgo Support Project (NSP).

Training workshop on cyclone preparedness and radio distribution among coastal fishermen community

IUCN Bangladesh Country Office conducted a training workshop on the ‘Significance of Cyclone and Strom Surge Warning and its Preparedness’ for coastal fishing community in Subarnachar, Noakhali on 8th January 2008 under ‘Promotion of Adaptation to Climate Change and Climate Variability in Bangladesh’ project.The aim of this training workshop was to develop clear understanding on the significance of the cyclone and storm surge warning and appropriate preparedness measure for coastal fishing community. Fifty fishermen were participated in the training workshop. IUCNB distributed transistor radios among them for receiving cyclonic warning message and weather bulletin. |

Galapagos Islands added to the World Heritage Danger List
28 July 2007
World Conservation Union warns the Galapagos Islands are under threat from the huge increase in tourists visiting the archipelago. The World Heritage Committee also added Niokolo-Koba National Park in Senegal to the list of World Heritage sites in danger.

Focus Group Meeting with Planning Officials of GoB

A focus group meeting titled ‘Capacity Development for Sectoral Planning in Bangladesh’ was held at the Academy for Planning and Development (APD), Nilkhet, Dhaka, on 16th June 2007. The Honorable Secretary of the Planning Division, Ministry of Planning, Mr. Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury graced the session as the Chief Guest. The participants included high-level government officials of the Planning Division. Mr. Larry Maramis, Deputy Country Director of UNDP Bangladesh was also present as the Special Guest.

Waterfowl census in Tanguar Haor

“The world’s banker to the poor” Muhammad Yunus receives 2006 Nobel Peace Prize

The World Conservation Union (IUCN) congratulates the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus and his Grameen Bank. Muhammad Yunus, often referred to as "the world's banker to the poor" is the founder of the Grameen banking system, which has been supporting millions of poor people through micro credits.
