During the last two decades, and more specifically, since the establishment of a regular country office of IUCN in Bangladesh back in 1991, this international intergovernmental organisation has enlisted eighteen members in Bangladesh including state member and non-governmental organisations (NG0s). This growth is an indication of enhanced national recognition of IUCN as a global union dedicated to conservation. Besides these members, with whom IUCN Bangladesh maintains close and diverse professional relationships, it also works in close collaboration with a number of other partners, viz. government agencies, NG0s, universities, media and other communication and service organisations, in a bid to harness and positively exploit the potentials of such bodies on issues of mutual interest, with a view to supporting the global mission of IUCN.

The current membership comprises two distinct categories, viz. state membership and NGO members. The state membership is being held by the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) which is the Government appointed counterpart of IUCN in Bangladesh. The NGO membership comprises almost all the leading environment and conservation activist organisations in the country.
